We are excited to announce our Valley of the Sun Karate Tournament! Due to demand our Fall Tournament will be split by belt rank and ages. *Note we are splitting green belts to balance our tournament days.
Saturday, April 5th - Green Belts (Ages 9-older), Blue - Black Belts
Sunday, April 6th - White - Yellow, Green (Ages 4-8)
Registration Deadline - March 30th
We will organize this tournament by pre-assigning students into divisions and groups. Each group will have no more than ten competitors and will be assigned to a specific ring at an assigned start time. Once the students report to their assigned ring they will compete in all the events in that particular ring until finished.
The official tournament schedule will be posted here on Wednesday, April 2nd.
This tournament’s registration fee includes the following event packages!
White, Yellow, & Green Belt package includes (Fastest Fist, Fastest Kick, Strongest Punch, Strongest Kick, Crazy Attack, and Flag Sparring).
Blue Belt package includes (Fastest Fist, Fastest Kick, Strongest Punch, Strongest Kick, Kata, Flag Sparring)
Purple Belt package includes (Fastest Fist, Fastest Kick, Strongest Punch, Strongest Kick, Kata, Sparring)
Orange Belts & Above package includes (Ultimate Punch, Ulitmate Kick, Kata, Board Breaking, Sparring, Noodle Battle)
We will have an option for “add ons” when registering so you can order the
EXCLUSIVE Tournament patch and t-shirt. You will pick these up at the event.

Our Tournament Trade-Up will begin new starting with this tournament. Only the new medals shown below or green trophies will be accepted at trade-up.
Participant Requirements:
Competitors must check in 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start time.
Check Stations will be located in front of the Main and Secondary Gym.
Competitors will receive a wristband upon checking in with their division group # and competitor # written on the wristband.
Note: Division and Group #'s relate directly to the ring assignment. For example, A1 will report to Ring 1, C3 will report to Ring 3. Competitors will wait with their families until we call for their group (A1, A2, etc.) to report to the ring staging area.
Ring 1-5 will be located in the Main Gym, Rings 6-10 will be located in the Secondary Gym.
Pre-ordered T-shirts and Patches will be available at merchandise located in the Wrestling Room.
No food or drink inside the gymnasiums! Closed-topped water bottles will be acceptable. Please help us out to keep the venue clean by using trash cans throughout the venue.
Event Descriptions:
FASTEST FIST: Contestants will have three chances to strike a meter bag that measures their reaction speed. Use any hand strike taught in class.
FASTEST KICK: Contestants will have three chances to kick a meter bag that measures their reaction speed. Use any kick taught in class. Only foot techniques are allowed – NO knee kicks. No Shoes Allowed.
STRONGEST PUNCH: Contestants will have three chances to punch a meter bag that measures their power. Use any hand strike taught in class. Only hand strikes will be allowed – NO elbow strikes.
STRONGEST KICK: Contestants will have three chances to kick a meter bag. Use any kick taught in class. You will have up to five feet of distance from the bag. Only foot techniques are allowed– NO knee kicks. No Shoes Allowed!
CRAZY ATTACK: Contestants will have 10 seconds to punch and kick a meter bag to measure total hits and power.
KATA: Open to Blue Belt & Above. Do any open hand form/kata learned in class—proper etiquette is required throughout.
FLAG SPARRING: Open to White - Blue Belts ONLY. Contestants can test their speed, footwork, accuracy & reactions in a safe but competitive setting by grabbing three flags from their opponent. The first to remove the flags from their opponent within a 60-second round is the winner!
SPARRING: Open to Purple Belt & Above. For those who participate in a sparring class. Sparring is judged as continuous sparring. Judges will determine the overall best fighter at the end of a 90-second round.
Ultimate Strike: Open to Intermediate & Advanced. The ultimate combination of strongest and fastest! Competitors will perform three strikes to a "meter" bag that measures their power and speed. The total power of all three techniques will be divided by the total time to determine the final score.
Ultimate KICK: Open to Intermediate & Advanced. The ultimate combination of strongest and fastest! Competitors will perform three Kick to a "meter" bag that measures their power and speed. The total power of all three techniques will be divided by the total time to determine the final score.
BOARD BREAKING: Open to Orange Belts & Above. The athlete will have two boards and perform a continuous, 2-strike combination using a hand/hand, hand/foot, or foot/foot combination. Athletes will only be judged by which attempt the board breaks. Athletes may change their technique within those three attempts. If the athlete cannot break the board in 3 attempts, the athlete will bow out. (An athlete who breaks the board on the third attempt will be judged the same as an athlete who breaks the board on their first attempt. In other words, there is no penalty or reward for which attempt the board breaks) These students can use open-hand techniques. Techniques using knuckles and in-step of foot are forbidden. Students must perform one break with the board in an instructor's hands and the other with the board placed on cinder blocks. The breaks can be done in any order—proper etiquette throughout. Boards used at the tournament will be 1/2" thick for all ranks and ages. These boards can also be purchased for further practice for $4/board.
Noodle Battle: Open to Orange & Above. Contestants will spar using a 27" pool noodle, representing an escrima stick. The whole body, including the head, is a target area. This event will be judged as point sparring, stopping the match when a point is earned. The first to five points wins within a 60-second round! Complete Sparring gear and faced headgear are required.

Registration Fee: $68 - Fee includes event package. Spectator Fee: $5 per person age 9 and older.
Register by March 30th! No late registrations will be accepted.
What to Bring:
Athlete Water Bottle - Water fountains will not be available.
Sparring Gear if participating in a Sparring & Noodle Battle events is required. STUDENTS MUST WEAR THEIR OWN CHEST GEAR, HEADGEAR, HAND PADS, FOOTPADS, MOUTH GUARD & CUP. Orange belts & above are required to have their own headgear with face protection! Students without proper sparring gear will be disqualified. ONLY ActivStars approved hand and foot pads will be allowed; boot-style foot pads and closed hand pads. No MMA gloves are allowed.
No gear is needed for Flag Sparring.
