Activstars Instructor

Kris loves all things kids from watching the Flintstones, Jetsons, Bugs Bunny, and Elmer Fudd to eating her fave cereals Peanut Butter Captain Crunch and Cocoa Pebbles…not mixed although that sounds like a Reese’s. She’s scared of heights but that didn’t stop her from jumping off 180 floors at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas…a big believer of overcoming your fears for sure!

CURRENT RANKS: First Degree Black Belt, Renshi Instructor

OTHER CERTIFICATIONS: I am First Aid and CPR certified.

PROFILE/BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

Martial Arts:  I began taking lessons in 2006 strictly as a means to rehab my knee after tearing my ACL and to share something with both of my kids, then in 2010 was awarded my black belt.  I currently hold the rank of First Degree Black Belt and the form I teach is based on Shotokan Karate. I am in my 12th year of teaching for Activstars, teaching all the way from the beginner level through the advanced ranks.   I truly enjoy the opportunity I’ve been given to work with the kids.

About me:  I grew up in central Wisconsin and call it home…even to this day.  I “transplanted” myself in Kansas City after graduating with my Masters from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and now work full time as the executive assistant to the general manager of sales for a local beverage distributor.  I’ve been at my current job for 20 years now and love that job almost as much as I love teaching the kids!

When I’m not teaching, I play on 4 competitive softball teams, and recently got back into a coaching role for club volleyball.   I’ve coached various sports over the years, so when Activstars approached me concerning an instructor’s position it seemed to be the perfect path for me in the martial arts.

I have two children – a daughter, Casey (20), and a son, Austin (24).  Both participated in Activstars karate for several years making it all the way to their Red Belt/Brown stripe.  My hope is someday that they return to martial arts and receive their black belt.  It’s hard to believe they started karate when they were just 4 and 7 respectively!

Quote/Motto:

1st Motto:  The words “I can’t” aren’t allowed in my classroom.  I believe once you have the mindset of “I can’t” then you won’t.  I prefer “I’ll try.” “Will you help me?” Or even “This isn’t going to be pretty!”  It’s amazing what you can achieve if you only try!

2nd Motto:  “Never, ever give up.”
